
Owners of small businesses, and those who someday want to join them, can both benefit from the Pottstown SCORE chapter's workshops.
POTTSTOWN PA – “How to Start and Operate a Small Business,” the popular workshop series for entrepreneurs operated by the Pottstown PA chapter of SCORE, is next scheduled to be presented on four consecutive Mondays beginning Nov. 8 (2010) at 7 p.m. in the chapter’s offices, 244 High St., Suite 102, Pottstown, chapter spokeswoman Sylvia Landis said Tuesday (Oct. 12).
SCORE is a volunteer organization of experienced current and retired operators and executives of local businesses, as well as outside practitioners recognized as experts in their specific fields, who offer to teach others how to start and run companies of their own. It is affiliated with the federal Small Business Administration.
The four workshops will cover:
- Sources of Information and the Tax and Legal Implications of the Different Legal Structures (Nov. 8);
- The Business Plan and The Business Loan (Nov. 15);
- Sources of Market Information and Marketing (Nov. 29); and
- It’s All About Profit (Dec. 6).
Instructors include Hanna Hartman, vice president and branch manager at National Penn Bank; Don Havas, president of Applied Technology and Sciences Inc; Jeff Kofsky, president of Higher Vision Coaching and Counseling; Mike Mayor, president of Systems Science LLC, and retired vice president of ITT Corp. Defense Electronics and Services; attorney David Megay from the firm of O’Donnell, Weiss and Mattei PC; Scott Rakowski, certified public accountant for Rakowski and Company; and Carolyn Wiker, head of Adult Services at the Pottstown Public Library.
Registration begins at 6:45 p.m.; all classes start promptly at 7. Each session costs $25. A manual on preparing a business plan also is available for $20. A special price of $100 is offered for the four courses as a package, and includes the manual. As an added bonus, there is a 50-percent workshop fee discount for each additional person attending from the same business. Ample free parking in the lot behind the New York Plaza.
